Armor, toughness and netherite

• Armor points reduce incoming damage, and armor toughness (which diamond and netherite have) keeps that protection effective against big hits.
• Netherite tops diamond: slightly higher toughness, knockback resistance, and it survives lava and does not burn – a real edge in the nether and in crystal fights.

Enchantments that matter

• Protection reduces most damage broadly; Blast Protection shines against crystals, TNT and beds; Projectile Protection against arrows.
• Unbreaking and Mending keep your kit alive so you are not fighting in half-broken armor.
