Turn on 2FA — it stops most account theft
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is the single highest-impact thing you can do for your accounts. Even if someone steals your password, they still cannot get in without the second factor.
Why it matters
- Passwords leak constantly. Data breaches dump millions of email/password pairs. If you reuse passwords, one leak unlocks everything – unless 2FA is in the way.
- It blocks remote logins. An attacker on the other side of the world has your password but not the code on your phone, so the login fails.
Do it right
- Prefer an authenticator app (TOTP) or a hardware key over SMS. SMS can be stolen through SIM-swapping.
- Save your backup codes somewhere offline so you are not locked out if you lose your phone.
- Turn on 2FA everywhere that matters: your email first (it can reset everything else), then Discord, your Microsoft/Minecraft account and your store login.
2FA does not make you invincible, but it turns “stolen password” from a disaster into a shrug.
